Frank Ocean | Christopher Edwin Breaux

Frank Ocean is, without a doubt, one of our generation’s geniuses. We were all in the palm of his withholding hands while we waited for Boys Don’t Cry. However, he was not always so oceanic. The enigmatic musician has changed his name, but why is that? The answer has to do with a degree of personal power.

Ocean was born Christopher Edwin Breaux, but he later changed his name to Frank Ocean to reflect his true identity as the hermit with the floating falsetto voice. She had filed the official documents for the name change back in March 2014. He was given his request and transformed into his final form nearly a year later. The obvious follow-up question is, “But why Frank Ocean?” His name was mainly inspired by Ocean’s 11, which starred Frank Sinatra. That made it easier for him to croon in a nightclub in one of those opulent Vegas casinos.
