She was born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane and grew up in New Jersey. She first rose to prominence for, among other things, a song parody about Taylor Swift dating Harry Styles. The attention given to The Haylor Song back in 2012 did not result in a surge of interest in the vocalist. She put the song Ghost on SoundCloud in 2014, and eventually signed with Astralwerks. But why Halsey? The singer lived in a loft off of Halsey Street in Brooklyn, and Halsey is also an anagram of Ashley.
